Federal Way residents can experience "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" live on stage at Centerstage Theatre, located at the Dumas Bay Centre, 3200 SW Dash Point Rd. The production, which began its run on October 2, continues to entertain audiences nightly until October 25, marking the start of Centerstage Theatre’s 2026/2027 season with an engaging piece of autumnal theater.

The stage adaptation by John Heimbuch and Jon Ferguson brings the late 18th-century ghost story to life. The narrative follows Ichabod Crane, a schoolmaster from Connecticut, as he arrives in the remote village of Sleepy Hollow, New York. Crane, depicted as peculiar and timid, expresses a desire to win the affections of Katrina Van Tassel, the daughter of a wealthy farmer. However, Sleepy Hollow is fraught with local legends and tales, including that of the Headless Horseman, who is said to terrorize the forest, seeking a head to claim as his own.

Guy Taylor Simpson, III portrays Ichabod Crane, embodying the character's awkward ambitions, elitist personality, and timid nature, conveying much emotion through his expressions. He is joined by an ensemble cast who also contribute significantly to the production. McKenna Webb takes on the role of Katrina Van Tassel, excelling in her portrayal. Josh Wingerter plays Brom Bones, Katrina’s long-standing suitor, whose rivalry with Ichabod for Katrina’s affection is presented as both reasonable and relatable.

Beyond the principal actors, the entire cast is recognized for their seamless integration of the ghost story's supernatural elements. They operate impressive horse structures during the Headless Horseman scenes and effectively utilize the small stage, all while bringing laughter to the audience with their distinctive character quirks and talents.

The overall production benefits from the direction of Niclas Olson, demonstrating considerable care and expertise. The show features an impressive light and sound design, well-paced choreography, and a spooky set that enhances the thrills and chills inherent in a ghost story. The creative and technical crew are noted for their contributions in bringing the story to life.

The Dumas Bay Centre venue itself is described as charming, with effective stagecraft and comfortable auditorium seating, providing an enjoyable setting for the performance.
