Four teenagers have been charged with murder after a shooting in Newberry County, South Carolina, resulted in one death and another injury, as NewsBreak: Local News & Alerts reported. The Newberry County Sheriff's Office announced the charges following an incident that occurred on a Friday night in Pomaria.
Tyler L. Austin, a 19-year-old from Newberry, was identified as the person who died from his injuries, according to Newberry County Coroner Laura Kneece. The second victim involved in the shooting was flown by medical helicopter to an area trauma center for treatment. Further information regarding the condition of the surviving victim was not immediately available from authorities.
Law enforcement officers initially responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting near the intersection of Holloway and Folk Streets in Pomaria. Shortly after the initial call, additional reports were received by the sheriff's office indicating that a vehicle in the vicinity had been struck by gunfire. Deputies arrived on the scene and located the two shooting victims, one of whom was later identified as Austin, who ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
An investigation into the incident led to the arrests of four individuals. Those charged include Dakerian Lytrell Greenwood, an 18-year-old resident of Pomaria; Kaevion Xydarius Eigner, a 17-year-old from Newberry; Jayden Gallman, an 18-year-old from Prosperity; and Montieth Brown, also an 18-year-old from Prosperity. All four have been charged with murder.
Details concerning any additional charges beyond murder were not available at the time of the announcement, nor was there any information released regarding the bond statuses for the arrested individuals. Newberry County court records show that Jayden Gallman was reportedly out on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond from an earlier arrest on a drug charge that occurred on October 15, when the shooting that resulted in Austin's death took place.
The motive behind the gunfire has not been determined, and authorities have not provided any information indicating whether there was a previous connection between the murder suspects and the victims. The Newberry County Sheriff's Office stated that the investigation into the shooting is continuing. An autopsy for the deceased victim is scheduled to be performed as part of the ongoing investigative process.
