Federal Way’s Todd Beamer High School football team is set to compete against Renton’s Hazen High School in a junior varsity game on Friday, October 16, at Renton Memorial Stadium. The match, scheduled for 7 p.m., offers an opportunity for student-athletes from both schools to continue playing after each canceled its high school varsity league football season within a week of each other. The game will also serve as a senior night for Hazen, while Todd Beamer’s senior players and cheerleaders will be honored the following week during a game against Kentlake High School.

The Federal Way School District issued a statement acknowledging the opportunity for Todd Beamer to participate in a senior night and continue competing. The district expressed enthusiasm for the dedicated student-athletes from both Todd Beamer and Hazen high schools, wishing both teams a safe and successful game. In its statement, the district highlighted its pride in the Todd Beamer players and coaches for their dedication and continued hard work, affirming its support as they represent their school and community. The district further clarified that while Hazen High School will honor its seniors during the October 16 game, Todd Beamer High School senior football players and cheerleaders are slated to be honored at the October 22 game against Kentlake High School, which will take place at Federal Way Memorial Field. The Federal Way School District conveyed anticipation for celebrating these contributions and dedication alongside the families and school community.

The decision for both Todd Beamer and Hazen to cancel their respective varsity seasons stemmed from challenges on the field and difficulties in assembling a sufficient number of players to compete in scheduled games. These issues led to the cancellation of their league varsity football schedules.

Prior to this upcoming contest, Todd Beamer had already played one junior varsity game. The Titans faced Evergreen’s junior varsity team on October 12, securing a significant 39-7 victory. That game was held at Evergreen High School, located in the White Center area of Seattle. Hazen, in contrast, has not participated in any games since its varsity season was canceled.

The upcoming game provides a distinct occasion for the senior players. Hazen’s current roster includes nine seniors who will be recognized during the Friday night event at Renton Memorial Stadium. For Todd Beamer, five seniors are on its roster. These Federal Way student-athletes will have their contributions acknowledged during the subsequent game against Kentlake. This arrangement ensures that seniors from both high schools receive recognition for their commitment to their respective football programs, despite the season modifications. The game on October 16 serves as a notable event for the Federal Way community, offering a chance to support local student-athletes as they continue their season under unique circumstances.
