Federal Way Police officers responded to a range of serious incidents within the city, including an abduction, a stabbing, and attempted robberies, alongside a notable fraud case and an arrest on an outstanding warrant.
At 7:54 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of 21st Ave. S following a report that a woman was being held against her will. The victim informed police that a known male suspect had threatened her with firearms. She was ultimately able to escape the situation and was received by officers. The suspect attempted to flee by climbing over a fence in his backyard but was apprehended by police without incident. He was subsequently booked into King County Jail.
Earlier, at 12:01 a.m., officers were called to the 1500 block of S 348th St. after a reporting party stated that an individual armed with two knives was chasing another person. Upon arrival, officers located a victim who had sustained a stab wound to the groin. A K9 unit was deployed to track the assailant, but these efforts were unsuccessful in locating the individual responsible.
An attempted strong-arm robbery was reported at 8:49 a.m. in the 2100 block of S 320th St. The reporting party told police that two subjects attempted to forcibly take a backpack from their younger brother. During the incident, one of the subjects brandished a firearm. A K9 unit was dispatched to search for the suspects, but they were not located.
Federal Way residents also faced fraud. At 3:27 p.m., officers responded to the 600 block of S 317th St. where a woman reported being defrauded of $14,700. The victim explained she received a phone call that led her to believe her grandson was in jail, resulting in the significant financial loss.
In a separate incident at 6:23 p.m., an off-duty Federal Way police officer, who was in full uniform, observed a vehicle illegally driving in a transit-only area at the Federal Way Transit Center and failing to stop at a designated stop line. The officer initiated a stop, and the driver was found to have a confirmed Washington State Patrol warrant for $3,000. The warrant was for charges including Driving Under the Influence (DUI), Driving While License Suspended (DWLS) 1st degree, and Operating a Vehicle Without an Ignition Interlock device. The driver was taken into custody and booked into Pierce County Jail.
Later in the evening, at 6:28 p.m., police received a phone report from a woman who discovered a tracking device in the wheel well of her vehicle after taking it to a mechanic shop. The reporting party told officers she had no knowledge of who might have placed the device on her vehicle.
Further reports included a theft at Wild Waves. At 6:21 p.m., officers were dispatched to the amusement park where a reporting party stated that their locker had been opened and personal items were stolen. While several of the stolen items were eventually recovered or returned, others remained missing.
Regarding vehicle-related incidents, three vehicle thefts were reported across Federal Way. Separately, officers recovered four vehicles throughout the day.
