A serious incident involving an e-scooter and a vehicle occurred on Friday in Everett, leading to critical injuries for a 5-year-old and serious injuries for a 16-year-old. The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office confirmed details of the event, which unfolded in Everett, Washington. The younger child sustained injuries described as life-threatening, while the teenager also received significant harm.

Sheriff’s Office investigators are working to understand the sequence of events. They currently believe that a collision took place between the vehicle and the e-scooter. This incident happened near the 600 block of Center Road, a location situated close to Mariner High School. Following what is believed to be the collision, the involved vehicle reportedly flipped over.

Despite their preliminary findings, investigators have not yet definitively confirmed that a collision occurred. This confirmation is pending, as the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office has not yet had the opportunity to speak with the 16-year-old involved in the incident, whose testimony is likely crucial to their understanding.

Both the 5-year-old and the 16-year-old, who were riding the e-scooter, were transported from the scene. The driver of the vehicle involved was also taken for medical attention. All three individuals were transported to Providence Regional Medical Center, which is located in Everett.

Separately, two other children who were occupants inside the vehicle involved in the incident also sustained injuries. However, these injuries were determined to be minor in nature, and as a result, these two children did not require transport to a hospital for further treatment.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office indicated that initial assessments did not uncover any reports of impairment connected to the incident. Authorities also stated that it is currently unclear whether the two children who were on the e-scooter are related to each other. Furthermore, it has not been determined if the 16-year-old involved is a student attending Mariner High School, the educational institution located nearby the incident site.

The ongoing investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Collision Investigation Unit, which specializes in reconstructing and analyzing serious traffic events. As a direct consequence of the incident and the ongoing investigative work at the scene, Center Road was anticipated to remain closed to vehicle traffic for an additional period of several hours following the event, impacting local travel.
